MAPS Testing

Next week we will have our first round of MAPS testing.  We will take our Math test on Tuesday, and our Reading test on Wednesday.  Please help your student by making sure he or she gets a good night's sleep, and eats breakfast in the morning.  Students are also encouraged to bring in healthy snacks.

A Look at Next Week:

Social Studies- We will begin Chapter 4 in our Social Studies text.  We will be reading Lessons 1 and 2, and taking notes as a class.  The essential questions that we will be focusing on in this unit are:  How can one country impact another?  and What can we learn from the Columbian exchange that has impacted other countries today?

ELA
Reading- We will continue to practice finding key details and summarizing (finding the gist.)  We will also be reviewing figurative language, building our reading stamina, and setting up our ELA centers.

Word WorkSpelling:  Students will be studying Lesson 2, and will take a test on Friday.

Language Arts- We are working on their writing stamina in their Writer's Notebooks.  We will be looking at prepositional phrases, and making sure we write in complete sentences.

Science- Students will continue to discuss what scientists look like.  They will then begin Chapter 5 on Energy and Ecosystems.

Math-  Students will begin Unit 1 on Place Value.  They will be comparing whole numbers and decimals.
