A Look at Next Week:

Social Studies- We will finish Chapter 4 in our Social Studies text.  We will read and take notes on Lesson 3.  We will focus on sequencing events, and making a concept map to retell the "story" of the chapter.
Essential Questions:  How can one country impact another?  and What can we learn from the Columbian exchange that has impacted other countries today?

ELA
Reading- We will continue building our reading stamina, and setting up our ELA centers.  We will be starting our Challenge Unit.  To kick off the unit we will be doing a close read of Langston Hughes' s poem, "Mother and Son."  We will discuss the different challenges the speaker faced and the advice she is trying to pass on to her son.

Word WorkSpelling:  Students will be studying Lesson 3, and will take a test on Friday.

Language Arts- We will be working on our writing stamina in our Writer's Notebooks.  We will be writing about challenges we face daily, weekly, and long-term.  Students will also be finding prepositional phrases in their writing, and making sure they are using a variety of sentences.

Science- Students will finish reading and taking notes on Lesson 5.1 on plants, and will begin to read Lesson 5.2 on ecosystems.
Essential Questions: How do plants produce food?  and How is energy passed through an ecosystem?

Math-  Students will take a quiz on Lessons 1.1-1.4 on Tuesday.  They will also be comparing and sorting decimals (Lessons 1.5-1.8).
