A Peek at Next Week

 A Look at Next Week:

ELA:

Reading- Students will continue to look at the Author's Purpose and viewpoint.  They will also be identifying context clues to help them define unknown words in the text.

Word Work- Students will continue to work with their List 2 word parts:  alter, anti, bi, geo, ology, and script.  They will be taking their Word Work List 2 assessment on Friday.

Writing- Students will begin our narrative writing unit.  Students will begin writing about a small moment from their life.

Math: Students will continue to practice using different multiplication strategies, writing expressions, and finding the volume of rectangular prisms.

Science:  Students will be writing a Scientific Explanation, using evidence from our Simulation or texts.

Social Studies:  Students will begin to read Lesson 4.2, "Different Worlds Collide."

A Peek at Next Week

A Look at Next Week:

ELA:

Reading- Students will continue to practice writing reading responses.  Meanwhile, they will also be looking at the Author's Purpose and viewpoint.  

Word Work- Students will continue to work with their List 2 word parts:  alter, anti, bi, geo, ology, and script.

Writing- Students will continue building their writing endurance in their Writer's Notebook.  They will also continue to analyze R.A.C.E.S. responses and looking at text evidence to support their claims.

Math: Students will be looking at the partial product strategy for solving multiplication problems.  Also this week students will be reviewing all the different multiplication strategies we have gone over, and will continue to work on finding the volume of rectangular prisms.

Science:  Students will continue to discuss different models that are helping us visualize the distance between stars and the Earth.  They will also practice using scientific words in their evidence in order to support their claims.

Social Studies:  Students will begin to read Lesson 4.2, "Different Worlds Collide."

A Peek at Next Week

 A Look at Next Week:

ELA:

Reading- Students will continue to practice writing reading responses.  While writing these responses we will use the R.A.C.E.S. strategy.  R=Restate; A=Answer; C=Cite evidence; E=Explain the evidence; S=Sum it up in a concluding sentence.

Word Work- Students will get their new word parts from List 2:  alter, anti, bi, geo, ology, and script.

Writing- Students will continue building their writing endurance in their Writer's Notebook.  They will also be learning about different ways to write hooks at the beginning of their stories.

Math: Students will be learning how to write expressions and using the partial product when multiplying.

Science:  Students will continue to discuss different models that are helping us visualize the distance between stars and the Earth.  They will also practice using scientific words in their evidence in order to support their claims.

Social Studies:  Students will  continue to discuss Lesson 4.1, "Voyages of Columbus."  They will go over our four key questions:  

1. What groups of people are involved? (What do they believe? What do they want?) 

2. How do these individuals or groups go about getting what they want?  (What worked or didn't work, and why?

3. What can be learned from the choices of these individuals or groups?

4. What does it remind you of? (Can you connect to a past or current event?)

A Peek at this Week

A Look at Next Week:

ELA:

Reading- Students will continue to practice writing summaries.  They will also practice making inferences and drawing conclusions from their reading.  

Word Work- Students will continue to work with their Word Work List 1 words.  They will take an assessment over these words on Friday.  List 1 word parts are:  aqua, bio, man, uni, phono, and pre.

Writing- Students will continue building their writing endurance in their Writer's Notebook

Math: Students are beginning Unit 1, Lesson 1, where they will be learning different multiplication strategies (Double the Dimension, Double the Area; Double and Halving).

Science:  Students will continue to conduct investigations using a simulation of the night sky.

Social Studies:  Students will begin studying Chapter 4 in our Social Studies Book:  "Spain Builds an Empire."  We will be discussing the effects of the Columbian Exchange.
