A Peek at Next Week

A Look at Next Week:

Social Studies- We will begin a small research project on the Columbian Exchange.  Students will create a compare and contrast presentation of one of the products that was sent to and from Spain during the Columbian Exchange.  We will come up with a class rubric, research on Chromebooks and begin creating the presentations this week.
Essential Questions:  How can one country impact another?  and What can we learn from the Columbian exchange that has impacted other countries today?

ELA
Reading- We will continue building our reading stamina, and setting up our ELA centers.  We will do a close read from the book Teammates about the challenges Jackie Robinson faced. We will also read an article written by Jackie Robinson's daughter about her father's career, and we will be comparing the challenges in Teammates to the challenges in the poem "Mother to Son."
Essential Questions:
How can challenges affect yourself and those around you (i.e family, friends, etc)?
How do characters, real and fictional, respond to challenges  (both positively & negatively)?
How are challenges conquered in literature and informational text?

Word WorkSpelling:  Students will be studying Lesson 6, and will take a test on Friday.

Language Arts- We will be working on our writing stamina in our Writer's Notebooks.  We will continue to find the subjects and predicates in our sentences, and to make sure all of our sentences are complete sentences.

Science- Students will continue to work on their Energy Pyramids, and their open-note assessment on Lesson 5.2 had been pushed back to Wednesday.
Essential Questions: How do plants produce food?  and How is energy passed through an ecosystem?

Math-  Students will begin Chapter 5, "Adding and Subtracting Decimals."  We will begin with rounding decimals and then move on to adding decimals by re-grouping.

Important Days:
Tuesday - Final Magazine Drive Turn-in Day
Friday - Movie Night

Have a great weekend!
