A Look at this Week:
This week we will be raising money for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Foundation through our Spirit Week. 
Monday-PJ Penny Day (wear your pajamas and bring in pennies)
Tuesday-
Neon Nickels Day (wear bright colors and bring in nickels)
Wednesday
Dazzling Dimes Day (wear something shiny or unique and bring dimes)
Thursday
Crazy Quarters Day (wear crazy socks or a hat and bring quarters)
Friday
Team up for Leukemia (wear team jerseys or colors and bring all coins) 

Students will also be taking the Illinois Science Assessment on Tuesday.  Please remember to have students bring their charged Chromebooks to school with their headphones.  Thank you!

Science- Students will begin studying a unit on "Earth's Systems."  Students will continue to work on their vocabulary words, and will be going over Earth's four main systems:  atmosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere.

ELA
ReadingStudents have discussed what hardships are and have reviewed our essential questions.  Now they will do a close read of the song "Yankee Doodle."

Language Arts- Students will continue to work with verb tenses, and will be writing R.A.C.E. responses to questions that will be based on their reading.

Word Work- Students will continue to work with vocabulary words from "Yankee Doodle."  The vocabulary words are:  Yankee, squire, stallion, scattered, targets, broadside, Minutemen, taunt.




Math- Students continue to study Unit 4, Module 3, "Moving from Arrays to Algorithms."  Students will practice using the standard algorithm for multiplication, and will also be working on picking the best strategies while solving story problems.

A Look at next Week:
Next week we will finish PARCC testing.  Please remember to send your student to school with a charged Chromebook and earbuds!

Social Studies- Students will be taking their Chapter 5 Social Studies test on Tuesday.

ELA
ReadingStudents will begin Unit 3, "Hardships in History."  They will do a close read of the song "Yankee Doodle."

Language Arts- Students will finish their Natural Disaster Magazine.

Word Work- Students will be working with vocabulary words from "Yankee Doodle."  The vocabulary words are:  Yankee, squire, stallion, scattered, targets, broadside, Minutemen, taunt.



Math- Students will be studying Unit 4, Module 3, "Moving from Arrays to Algorithms."  Here we will be using arrays in problem strings for multiplying and dividing, and from there learning the standard algorithms.

A Peek at this Week

Researching Natural Disasters





A Look at this Week:
This week we will begin PARCC testing.  Please remember to send your student to school with a charged Chromebook and earbuds!

Social Studies- Students will be reviewing Chapter 5.  They will participate in a Trade Fair on Friday.  Students should bring homemade items to trade at their "booth."  Students will be learning about supply and demand, and how colonists bartered for goods.

ELA
Students will be working on their final project for Unit 2.  Students will be researching a natural disaster (for example Hurricane Katrina), and will create a digital magazine about this storm.  Their magazine will have three articles, one picture with a caption, and a map with a caption, along with a list of sources.
  
ReadingStudents will be reading about their specific storms.  They will be paraphrasing their research in their Writing notebooks.

Language Arts- Students will be writing three articles, each in a different text structure, based on their research.  The different text structures they may choose from are: compare and contrast, cause and effect, sequencing events, problem and solution, or description.  

Word Work- Students will be working on using scientific vocabulary in their articles.

Math- Students will be studying Unit 4, Module 2, on different multiplication and division strategies.
