Happy Thanksgiving!

A Look at This Week:
Social Studies- Students are finishing notes on Lesson 5.4 "The 13 English Colonies."

Science- Students will review Chapter 6 and take a test over the material on Friday.

ELA
Reading- Students will continue to research a famous person who has overcome a challenge, and fill out their graphic organizers.
Essential Questions:
How are challenges conquered in literature and informational text?
How do characters, real and fictional, respond to challenges (both positively and negatively)?
How can challenges affect yourself and the world around you?

Word Work-  Students will continue to review the roots/prefixes/suffixes from the first four lists, and will receive the words from List 5 (a/an, dec, derma, photo, port, struct).

Language Arts- Students will turn in their narratives, and will look over grammar in past written pieces.

Math-  Students will review all week and take their Unit 2 test on adding and subtracting fractions on Thursday.

A Peek at this Week

A Look at This Week:
Social Studies- Students are finishing notes on Lesson 5.3, "The First Colonies."  Then they will read Lesson 5.4 "The 13 English Colonies."

Science- Students will take notes on Lesson 6.3, "How do People Affect Ecosystems."


ELA
Reading- Students will be introduced to their research project.  Students will be researching a famous person who has overcome a challenge, and present their findings in a Glogster.
Essential Questions:
How are challenges conquered in literature and informational text?
How do characters, real and fictional, respond to challenges (both positively and negatively)?
How can challenges affect yourself and the world around you?

Word Work-  Students will review the roots/prefixes/suffixes from the first four lists.

Language Arts- Students will grade their narratives using the rubric and make final revisions to their papers.

Math-  Students have begun Lesson or Module 3, "Common Denominators."  Students are using ratio tables to multiply numbers, find common denominators, and simplify fractions.  Students will be taking an open-note quiz on this lesson on Friday.

A Peek at this Week

A Look at This Week:
Social Studies- Students will read and take notes on Lesson 5.3, "The First Colonies."

Science- Students will take an open-note assessment on Lesson 6.2 on Thursday.


ELA
Reading- Students will practice paraphrasing when reading informational text.
Essential Questions:
How are challenges conquered in literature and informational text?
How do characters, real and fictional, respond to challenges (both positively and negatively)?
How can challenges affect yourself and the world around you?

Word Work-  Students will continue to work with List 4:  aud/audi, de, hydr/hydro, cardio, duct, and quad.

Language Arts- Students will continue to revise their narratives.  They will also take a Grammar quiz on Friday, covering conjunctions, interjections and prepositions.

Math-  Students will finish Lesson 2, "Introducing Common Denominators."  They will take an open-note assessment over Lesson 2 on Wednesday.  They will be going over adding and subtracting fractions, by relating this information to clocks and money.  They will also be solving these problems using double number lines.  Bringing home their notebooks to look over the lessons should be helpful in reviewing for this quiz.

A Look at This Week:
Social Studies- Students will read and take notes on Lesson 5.2, "New European Colonies."

Science- Students will continue to read and take notes on Lesson 6.2, "How do Ecosystems Change Over Time?" 


ELA
Reading- Students will re-write Chapter 6 in Touching Spirit Bear from a different character's perspective.
Essential Questions:
How are challenges conquered in literature and informational text?
How do characters, real and fictional, respond to challenges (both positively and negatively)?
How can challenges affect yourself and the world around you?

Word Work-  Students will work with List 4 or roots/prefixes/suffixes:  aud/audi, de, hydr/hydro, cardio, duct, and quad.

Language Arts- Students will continue to revise their narratives, and work with prepositions.

Math-  Students will continue to work on Lesson 2, "Introducing Common Denominators."  They will continue to find equivalent fractions by working on word problems.  Students will be adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers.
