Too Good for Drugs Graduation Ceremony

The fifth grade parents, relatives and friends are all invited to your child's Too Good for Drugs graduation ceremony.  It will be held on Thursday, April 11th at 8:15 AM.  We will be meeting in the Prairieview gym. Your student will receive a formal invitation when they come back from Spring break.  We look forward to celebrating the students' success.


A Look at Next Week:
Spelling- We will be doing Lesson 25, with a test on Friday.

Social Studies- Students will begin reading Chapter 9, Lesson 3 about the second part of the Revolutionary War.

Reading- We will continue with our China unit.  Students will begin researching facts for their China brochures.

Language Arts- We will be finishing up our Me Page project.  Students will be working on their self-portraits.

Science- Students will continue to read Chapter 15 on energy.

Math-  We will continue to go over Chapter 11.

Important Days:
Monday- No School
Friday- Jump for Hearts Assembly

Giant Pandas Internet Activity


Today we went on National Geographic for Kids website and looked up facts about Pandas.  Students looked at Panda pictures and videos and read about the animal as well.  Afterwards students had a great time exploring the rest of the website and learning about other animals and cultures.

A Look at Next Week:
Spelling- We will be doing Lesson 24, with a test on Friday.

Social Studies- Students will finish reading and taking notes on Lesson 9.2 about the Revolutionary War.  We will be discussing Washington's crossing of the Delaware River, write some journal entries, and will make connections to our read-a-loud book, The Crossing.

Reading- We will continue with our China unit.  Students will be reading about China's economy and begin compiling facts about China.

Language Arts- We will continue our Me Page project.  Students will make the finishing touches on their rough drafts and we will begin typing our articles.

Science- Students will continue to read Chapter 15 on energy.  Students will finish taking notes on Lesson 3 and will have an open note assessment on Thursday.

Math-  We will finish Chapter 11 on divisibility rules, factors, and multiples.  We will have a test on Friday.

Food Pantry Drive



The Prairieview PBIS team is extending a wonderful opportunity to begin the new year with a community service project.  We will be holding a Food Pantry Drive at school for the West Suburban Community Pantry in Woodridge from March 11-15.  Boxes will be provided in each classroom to collect the non-perishable food items.  Girl Scout Troop 50251, comprised of third and fourth grade students from Prairieview, has graciously volunteered to pack up and deliver the donated food on March 16th.  Thank you in advance for your generosity of spirit and deed!


A Look at Next Week:
Spelling- We will be doing Lesson 23, with a test on Friday.

Social Studies- Students will finish Lesson 9.1 and begin Lesson 9.2 about the Revolutionary War.

Reading- We will begin our China unit.  Students will go over a brief history of China and learn about its geography.

Language Arts- We will continue our Me Page project.  Students will finish writing their rough drafts for their lead story, and will be working on an acrostic poem.

Science- Students will continue to read Chapter 15 on energy.  Students will hopefully finish reading and taking notes on Lesson 3 and may have an open note assessment on Friday.

Math-  We will begin Chapter 11 on divisibility rules, factors, and multiples.  We will do Lessons 11.1-11.3.

Important Days:
Monday-  Naper Settlement Field Trip-  Bring a Sack Lunch!
Tuesday-  ISAT Testing- Reading Session 3

ISAT Testing

Next week begins ISAT testing.  Some ways students can prepare for the tests is to get a good night sleep, eat a good breakfast in the morning, and bring a healthy snack to school.  Below is the Fifth Grade ISAT Schedule:

Tuesday, 3/5-  Math and Reading Session 1 Tests from 8:15-11:00 AM
Wednesday, 3/6-  Math and Reading Session 2 Tests from 8:15-11:00 AM
Thursday, 3/7-  Math Session 3 Test from 8:15-9:30 AM
Tuesday, 3/12-  Reading Session 3 Test from 8:15-9:30 AM

We will not be switching for Math on testing days and all students will have a fifteen minute break in between testing sessions.


A Look at Next Week:
Spelling- We will be doing Lesson 22, with a test on Friday.

Social Studies- Students will take their Chapter 8 test on Monday.  We will then begin reading Chapter 9 on the Revolutionary War.

Reading- We will finish working on Extended Reading Responses, and do some activities with our Time For Kids magazine.

Language Arts- We will continue our Me Page project.  Students will finish writing their rough drafts for their Personal Achievement article, and will begin the brainstorming process for their biographical article.

Science- Students will continue to read Chapter 15 on energy.

Math-  Students will continue to practice doing multiple choice questions, and will review fractions.
