Too Good for Drugs Graduation

The fifth graders' Too Good for Drugs Graduation is Wednesday, March 25th at 1:00 PM in the Prairieview gym.  You are welcome to come and show support for your child's efforts to make better decisions and remain drug free.  Please send your child dressed appropriately for this event.  We look forward to honoring our students.

A Look at Next Week:
Social Studies- We will review Chapter 8 and take the test on Thursday.

ELA
Reading- Students will continue our unit, "Nature's Fury." Students will practice speaking and discussing in a group.  We will practice having discussions about "The Eye of the Storm."  Then students will have discussions based on their questions about natural disasters.
Essential Questions:  How does a force of nature that is far away, affect me?
How can a force of nature be both destructive and constructive at the same time?
What are forces of nature?

Word WorkSpelling:  Students will be studying Lesson 30, and will take a test on Friday.
Vocabulary-  Students will play word games on the iPad and Scrabble.

Language ArtsStudents will make the final revisions of their narratives.  

Science- Students will continue to take Cornell notes on Lesson 12.3, "What Forces Shape Shorelines?"  They will hopefully take an open-note quiz on Lesson 12.3 on Wednesday.  

Math-  We will begin Chapter 8 on fractions.  We will go over Greatest Common Factor (GCF), writing fractions in their simplest forms, Least Common Multiples (LCM), and comparing fractions.  We hope to take a quiz on Lessons 8.2-8.6 on Thursday.  Students should already know these concepts from last year, we are just going to revisit them, and focus on areas students still need help on in order to make sure everyone has strong base knowledge.

Monday-  Cubs vs. Sox Day, and Roller Skating Party
Tuesday-  Shades Day
Wednesday-  Wear Spring Colors
Thursday-  Hat Day
Friday- Comfy Clothes Day, Naper Settlement Field Trip

A Look at Next Week:
Social Studies- We will take cause and effect notes on Lesson 8.3, "The Revolution Begins."  We will continue to look at the different events leading up to the war from the Patriots point of view and then from the Loyalists point of view.

ELA
Reading- Students will continue our unit, "Nature's Fury." Students will write an expository essay on how hurricanes are natural disasters.

Math-  We will finish our unit on dividing with decimals.  Students will take a quiz on Monday over Lessons 6.9-6.11.  We will then go over dividing with decimals in both the dividend and divisor.  We will first demonstrate this with models (Lesson 6.12), and then we will use the algorithm (Lesson 6.13).  Students will then take a quiz on Lessons 6.12-6.13 on Friday.

Thursday- Early Dismissal, Spirit Day- Boys wear blue, Girls wear red
Friday- First Day of Spring!
