Spring MAP Testing

We have our spring MAP's testing this coming up week.  We will be taking the Math test on Tuesday and the Reading test on Thursday.  Please help your children prepare themselves by getting plenty of sleep and eating healthy breakfasts in the mornings.  


A Look at Next Week:

Spelling- Students will be learning the words in Lesson 28, and have a test on Friday.

Social Studies- Students will finish reading Lesson 10.1 and 10.2.  They will be learning about the Preamble and the Bill of Rights.

Reading- We will continue to read Holes, and The White Giraffe.  Students will be working on vocabulary for the novels and will be discussing their literature circle roles in their groups.

Language Arts- Students will be taking a test on pronouns on Wednesday.

Science- We will continue to go over Lesson 11.2 on the water cycle.  Students will take an open note assessment on Lesson 11.2 on Thursday.

Math-  We will continue Chapter 12 on fractions.  Students will take the Chapter 12 test on Friday.

Phil Schwarz

The fifth graders enjoyed their visit from Mr. Schwarz.  He covered a lot of the material that is in Ch.11.  He discussed how heat affects all weather, why the seasons change, and how we can make weather predictions.  Overall it was a wonderful visit!

A Look at Next Week:

Spelling- Students will be learning the words in Lesson 27, and have a test on Friday.

Social Studies- Due to my illnesses this past week, students Chapter 9 Test has been pushed back to  Tuesday.

Reading- We will begin our new novels, Holes, and The White Giraffe.

Language Arts- Students will finish studying pronouns.

Science- We will take our open note assessment on Lesson 11.1 on Tuesday.  We will then read about the water cycle and hopefully take our Lesson 11.2 assessment on Friday.

Math-  We will continue Chapter 12 on fractions.  We will take the Chapter 12 test on Friday.

Meteorologist

Meteorologist Phil Schwarz will be coming to talk to our fifth graders on Tuesday morning.  We are very excited to have Mr. Schwarz kick off our weather unit in Science.  He is a weatherman for ABC 7 Weekend  News, so turn on the TV and watch him at work.

Spelling- Students will be learning the words in Lesson 26, and have a test on Friday.

Social Studies- Students will review the Revolutionary War and take their Chapter 9 Test on Thursday.

Reading- We will be making our China brochures and Chinese lanterns.

Language Arts- Students will continue to study pronouns.

Science- We will be introducing our weather unit.  Phil Schwarz, a professional meteorologist will be coming in to talk to the class on Tuesday.

Math-  We will continue Chapter 12 on fractions.  We will take a quiz on Lessons 12.1-12.3 on either Wednesday or Thursday.

Reading- We will continue with our China unit.  Students will begin typing up their paragraphs and finding pictures for their brochures.

Language Arts- Students will continue to work on their self-portraits, and we will also be working on our pronoun unit.

Science- Students will take their 15.4 open-note assessment on Monday.  They will then review the rest of the week and take their Chapter 15 test on Thursday.

Math-  We will begin Chapter 12 on fractions.
