Science and Industry Museum

This Wednesday we are going on our Science and Industry Museum field trip.  Students will be in the Colorful Chemistry Lab for half of the day, and for the other half they will be exploring museum exhibits.  In the lab they will participate in hands-on chemistry by testing chemical reactions that produce light and colors, and investigating what extinguishes fire.  I'm looking forward to the trip!


A Look at Next Week:
Spelling- We will be doing Lesson 21, with a test on Friday.

Social Studies- Students will finish their Patriot/Loyalist books on the computer.

Reading- We will continue to work on Extended Reading Responses, and cause and effect.

Language Arts- We will begin our Me Page project.  Students will do some pre-writing activities for a newspaper article they will be writing about themselves.

Science- Students will read Chapter 15, lessons one and two.

Math-  Students will practice doing multiple choice questions, and will review fractions.

Prairieveiw's Author Night


This Tuesday evening we will be having an Author's Night at Prairieview.  Aaron Reynolds will be speaking to students and their families at 6:30 PM.  He is a New York Times Bestselling Author and has written many children's books, including Creepy Carrots!, Chicks and Salsa, and the Joey Fly, Private Eye graphic novel series.  He frequently visits schools and his highly participatory presentations are a blast for kids and adults alike.  He lives in the Chicago area with his wife, two kids, and four cats.  We look forward to meeting him!

A Look at Next Week:
Spelling- We will be doing Lesson 20, with a test on Friday.

Social Studies- Students will create their Patriot/Loyalist books on the computer.

Reading- We will continue to focus on author's viewpoint as we read another revolutionary story called "Katie's Trunk."

Language Arts- We will finish our unit on verbs, and take our last verb quiz on Friday.

Science- Students will begin reading about Chapter 15:  "Energy."

Math-  We have pushed back our Chapter 4 test until Friday.  We will go over Lesson 8 on inequalities and review throughout the week.  Students will also be working on ISAT prep.

Important Days:
Monday- No School, President's Day
Tuesday- Author's Night 6:30 PM

A Look at Next Week:
Spelling- We will be doing Lesson 19, with a test on Friday.

Social Studies- Students will finish reading Lesson 3 in our books, and continue their Patriot/Loyalist project.

Reading- We will continue to discuss author's viewpoints and will practice writing ISAT extended responses.

Language Arts- We will continue our unit on verbs.  Students will study Lessons 10-13 in our text books.

Science- We will review Chapter 14 on "The  Properties of Matter."  Students will take a Ch.14 test on Thursday.

Mastny's MathWe will finish Chapter 4 on Algebra.  Students will be taking a Ch.4 test on Friday.

A Peek at Next Week


A Look at Next Week:
Spelling- We will be doing Lesson 18, with a test on Friday.

Social Studies- Students will begin their Patriot/Loyalist Project.  We will do a lesson on taxation, and we will read Lesson 3 in our books.

Reading- We will finish our discussion on Paul Revere, and compare this biography to what it says in our Social Studies books.  We will also practice finding the author's viewpoint in different selections of literature, and then apply our knowledge to our story on Paul Revere.

Language Arts- We will continue our unit on verbs.  Students will study Lessons 8-12, on subject/verb agreement, contractions, and irregular verbs.

Science- We will continue our chapter on "The Properties of Matter."  We will do a few more activities on chemical change.  Therefore I pushed back their open-note assessment on Lesson 14.3 until Wednesday.

Mastny's Math- We are beginning Chapter 4 on Algebra.  Students will be learning about writing mathematical expressions, and properties.

Important Days:

Tuesday- District Spelling Bee
Friday-  PTO Trivia Night
