Boosterthon: Roar and Run!









    Thanks to you and your children our Boosterthon was a huge success!  Our classroom raised $1,460!  Thank you so much for supporting our school, the kids had a great time at the Roar and Run!

 A Peek at this Week:

ELA:  

Writing:  We will continue to build our writing stamina in our Writing notebooks.  

Reading Skills: Students will work on breaking down words into their roots and prefixes.  They will also review different forms of figurative language.  Then later in the week they will practice writing written response to their reading using text evidence to support their answers.

Essential Question:  How do your experiences help shape your identity?

Word WorkStudents will be working with our new vocabulary words, by defining the word, drawing a picture of the word, finding synonyms and antonyms, and writing them in sentences.

Essential Vocabidentity, experience, pursuit, wisdom

Math: Students will continue to go over factors, multiples, prime numbers, and composite numbers.

Science: We will continue our September STEM challenge, which is to build a boat, that will be able to hold a dry erase marker.

Social Studies:  Students will continue to build our classroom community, and we will begin reading about the Midwest.

A Peek at this Week:

ELA:  

Writing:  We will continue to build our writing stamina in our Writing notebooks.  We will also work on different strategies for coming up with writing ideas. Our second strategy is to write down and answer "I wonder..." statements.

Reading Skills: Students will begin their first unit in Reading: "What makes us who we are?"  We will be working on asking questions as we read, and coming up with the central or main idea.

Math: Students will continue to look at the different ways to model multiplication:  open number line, ratio table, tile array, and area model.  We will also be going over factors, multiples, prime numbers, and composite numbers.

Science: We will be using Mystery Science videos and STEM activities to help students become more inquisitive and curious about the world around them.  We will continue our September STEM challenge, which is to build a boat, that will be able to hold a dry erase marker.

Social Studies:  Students will continue to build our classroom community, and we will begin our unit on the studying the Midwest.
