 A Look at This Week:

ELA:  

Reading- We will continue to look at different character's perspectives within a story, and author's purpose.  Student's book reports are due this week.

Word Work- Students will continue to work with Word Work List 5 word parts: a/an, dec, derma, photo, port, and struct.

Writing- Students will make writing goals, and will review the use of commas while writing.

Math: Students will learn how to multiply a fraction by a whole number.

Science:  Students will finish discussing patterns in the night sky.

Social Studies:  Students will be discussing colonialism, and the colony of Jamestown.

A Look at This Week:

ELA:  

Reading- We will continue to look at different character's perspectives within a story.  We will finish our discussion of the book Teammates.

Word Work- Students will continue to work with Word Work List 4 word parts.

Writing- Students will continue to journal about small moments in our life from our character's point of view.  We will also enhance our writing by using commas as we write.

Math: Students will learn how to simplify fractions using the Greatest Common Factor.

Science:  Students will continue to investigate why the patterns in the night sky change throughout the year, and will write a Scientific Explanation on Friday.

Social Studies:  Students will finish discussing their theories about what happened to the Roanoke colonists.

Geography Stations

  

A Look at This Week:

ELA:  

Reading- We wrapped up our discussion on A Boy Called Slow.  Next week we will begin to look at the story, Teammates, which is about Jackie Robinson.

Word Work- Students will continue to work with Word Work List 4 word parts, and take a quiz over the words on Friday.  Word Work List 4: aud, cardio, de, duct, hydro, and quad.

Writing- Students will continue to journal about small moments in our life from our character's point of view.

Math: Students will be deciding when it is more effective to view fractions as money or clocks.  They will also begin to find the Least Common Multiple, and will be begin simplifying fractions.

Science:  Students will continue to investigate why the patterns in the night sky change throughout the year.

Social Studies:  Students will begin Chapter 5, Lesson 1:  "Hard Times in Virginia."  We will be taking cause and effect notes while we look at the mystery of the lost colony of Roanoke.

ELA:  

Reading- We will review context clues, and vocabulary for our next story, A Boy Called Slow.

Word Work- Students will begin to work with Word Work List 4 word parts: aud, cardio, de, duct, hydro, and quad.

Writing- Students will continue to journal about small moments in our life from our character's point of view.

Math: Students will be using money models to add and subtract fractions.

Science:  Students will be discovering why the patterns in the night sky change throughout the year.

Social Studies:  Students will finish discussing the 5 themes of Geography.  Then we will begin Chapter 5, "The 13 English Colonies."

ELA:

Reading- Students will continue to go over the elements of a short story and themes of a story.

Word Work- Students will continue to work with their List 3 word parts:  astro, auto, ject, post, spect and tri.  They will take their Word Work List 3 Assessment on Wednesday.

Writing- Students will continue to journal about small moments in our life.

Math: Students will begin Unit 2, which focuses on adding and subtracting fractions.  We will reflect on our Unit 1 test, take our Unit 2 pre-assessment, and begin our first lessons that look at money as fractions.

Science:  Students will be writing a Scientific Explanation, using evidence from different models.

Social Studies:  Students will begin to look at the 5 themes of geography:  location, place, human-environment interaction, movement,  and region.

 A Look at Next Week:

ELA:

Reading- Students will continue to look at the Author's Purpose and viewpoint.  They will also be identifying context clues to help them define unknown words in the text.

Word Work- Students will continue to work with their List 2 word parts:  alter, anti, bi, geo, ology, and script.  They will be taking their Word Work List 2 assessment on Friday.

Writing- Students will begin our narrative writing unit.  Students will begin writing about a small moment from their life.

Math: Students will continue to practice using different multiplication strategies, writing expressions, and finding the volume of rectangular prisms.

Science:  Students will be writing a Scientific Explanation, using evidence from our Simulation or texts.

Social Studies:  Students will begin to read Lesson 4.2, "Different Worlds Collide."

A Look at Next Week:

ELA:

Reading- Students will continue to practice writing reading responses.  Meanwhile, they will also be looking at the Author's Purpose and viewpoint.  

Word Work- Students will continue to work with their List 2 word parts:  alter, anti, bi, geo, ology, and script.

Writing- Students will continue building their writing endurance in their Writer's Notebook.  They will also continue to analyze R.A.C.E.S. responses and looking at text evidence to support their claims.

Math: Students will be looking at the partial product strategy for solving multiplication problems.  Also this week students will be reviewing all the different multiplication strategies we have gone over, and will continue to work on finding the volume of rectangular prisms.

Science:  Students will continue to discuss different models that are helping us visualize the distance between stars and the Earth.  They will also practice using scientific words in their evidence in order to support their claims.

Social Studies:  Students will begin to read Lesson 4.2, "Different Worlds Collide."
