Narrative Writing:  Drafting

 Look at this Week:

ELA:  

Writer's Workshop:  We will begin revising our narratives.  Students will work on writing different leads to their stories and using transition words in their writing.

Reading Skills: Students will continue studying their first unit in Reading: "What makes us who we are?" We will finish discussing the story, The Year of the Rat.  We will continue to practice asking questions as we read, and will continue to discuss author's purpose.

Essential Question:  How do your experiences help shape your identity?

Essential Vocab: identity, experience, pursuit, wisdom

Word Work: Students will continue to work with our new vocabulary words, by defining the word, drawing a picture of the word, finding synonyms and antonyms, and writing them in sentences.  New vocabulary words include:  ancient, heritage, resolutions, doubts, relying, clumsy, and awkward.

Science: We will be using Mystery Science videos and STEM activities to help students become more inquisitive and curious about the world around them.  We will begin to discuss the science behind creating sports' equipment.

Social Studies:  Students will continue to study the Midwest.  We will continue to look at the physical features and waterways of the Midwest.  We will also continue to discuss Hispanic Heritage month and learn about different Latin American countries.

Math: Students will be taking their Unit 1 assessment on Thursday of this week.  We will be reviewing the different strategies to model multiplication, factors, prime/composite numbers and multiples.  Students will receive a new copy of the pre-assessment which will serve as their study guide for the test.
