We were lucky enough to have Phil Schwarz come talk to our 5th graders about weather and meteorology. Mr. Schwarz is the meteorologist for ABC 7 Weekend News and ABC 7 Sunday Morning News. He joined ABC 7 News in 1995.
Previously, Mr. Schwarz was the meteorologist at WNYW-TV in New York, NY, where he reported the weather for their 10 PM newscast (1993-95). Before that, he served as weekend meteorologist at KSTP-TV, the ABC affiliate in St. Paul, MN. (1989-93).
Phil Schwarz began his career as a weather forecaster in his hometown of Flint, MI where he was the weekend meteorologist for WJRT-TV, the local ABC affiliate (1984-89). During this time, he also owned a forecasting service.
Mr. Schwarz earned his B.S. degree in Meteorology from Pennsylvania State University in 1983. He holds the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval, and volunteers as an assistant coach for Youth Hockey. He resides in the suburbs of Chicago with his wife and two children.

A Look at Next Week:
Social Studies- We will be reading about the War of 1812, and will be watching a video on Lewis and Clark's exploration.
Reading- Students will be meeting in literature circles to discuss the end of their novels. They will watch the movie Holes, and will write a book review for their novel.
Language Arts- Students will have a creative writing assignment, where students will focus on subject-verb agreement.
Science- Students will continue to explore the ocean and its many features.
