Reading/Language Arts- We have started Unit 2, "Nature's Fury," and have been discussing natural disasters. This week students will continue to practice their paraphrasing skills. Students will practice drawing inferences from maps, and adding their own thoughts to their research. We will also be looking at cause/effect, and adding sequencing to our writing.
Word Work- Students will continue to work on Word Work List 5: a/an, dec, derma, photo, port, and struct. They will also continue to work with vocabulary words that go along with a hurricane article we will be reading (tropical cyclone, condenses, cumulonimbus, unstable, mound, and inland).

Science- We will begin Unit 2, Chapter 1, "Why did the food coloring separate into different dyes?" As a food scientist, students will be looking at how the different properties of individual substances affect the overall properties of the mixture they create. The unit question for Lesson 1.1 is: "What happens when two substances are mixed together?" Our vocabulary words are mixture, observe, property, and substance.
Social Studies- We began Chapter 7, Lesson 3, "The French and Indian War." Students will be reading the lesson and taking Cornell notes.
Math- Students will be finishing Unit 2, Module 3. We will be preparing for our Unit 2 test, which will hopefully be on Tuesday 2/5.
