A Peek at Next Week

A Look at This Week:
Social Studies- Students will continue to research and create their presentation on the Columbian Exchange.
Essential Questions:  
How can one country impact another?
What can we learn from the Columbian Exchange that has impacted other countries today?

Science- Students will finish their Science Song and the review the chapter.  
Essential Questions: 
How do plants produce food?
How is energy passed through an ecosystem?


ELA
Reading- We will be reading A Boy Called Slow, and we will be reviewing parts of a short story.  We will also continue to work on summarizing articles.  
Essential Questions:
How are challenges conquered in literature and informational text?
How do characters, real and fictional, respond to challenges (both positively and negatively)?
How can challenges affect yourself and the world around you?

Word Work-  We will continue to work with our second list of root-words, prefixes, or suffixes which include:  alter, bi, logy/ology, anti, geo, and script/scrib. Our vocabulary words from A Boy Called Slow include: determination, custom, extended, reputation, triumph, inherited, travois, and coup stick.

Language Arts- Students will take their quiz on commas on Monday.  They will also practice making hooks or attention-getters that come at the beginning of a piece of writing.  This is in preparation for our narrative unit.  Then for grammar this week, we will be focusing on simple, compound, and complex sentences, and the proper way to write a title.

Math-  We will continue to review our multiplication strategies, and reinforce them through games in centers.  We will also continue to work on division using models, and will work on interpreting the remainders.
