We will have our Chapter test on Wednesday. The students are encouraged to review their notes and their textbooks. They are not able to use either of these during the test.  The test will have both multiple choice and questions asking for complete sentences.

Reading-  We will finish up work with Tall Tales by the students writing their own tall tale. This week we will begin Unit 2: Non-Fiction Text Organization. We will: Identify thin and thick questions, compare and contrast the overall structure of information in texts (text structure, text features, graphic organizers), homonyms and multi- meaning words. Our theme for this unit is "Natures Fury". We will begin by reading Earthquake Terror.

Reading Projects: The students are to read a REALISTIC FICTION book.
The students should create reading goals by setting a certain number of pages to be read each week. They will be making a memory bag to go along with their story and give a small presentation at the end. The final due date for the project is November, 7.

Language Arts-  We will be writing a Pyramid Poem this week. The student will choose a picture and write their poems using what they learned in this unit. This will end our unit on sentences. We will have our chapter test on Thursday. The students should be able to identify sentences fragments, the 4 different types of sentences           ( imperative, declarative, interrogative and exclamatory), complete and simple subjects, complete and simple predicates, conjunctions and run-on sentences.

Math-   We began Chapter 2: Multiply Whole Numbers
We learned about prime and composite numbers and the divisibility rule. I encouraged the students to remember these rules ( in math spiral). We learned several strategies for identifying the prime factors of whole numbers, and understand how to express prime factorization correctly. We also learned about powers and exponents. We will have a review on Monday over prime and composite numbers, prime factorization and power and exponents. They have everything they need to review in their math spirals. We will then move to multiplication patterns, problem solving , use partial products and the distributive property.
